Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Geopolitical identity plays a crucial role in shaping regional cooperation and collaborative efforts among local governments in Nigeria. In Babura Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State, regional collaboration is essential for addressing issues that transcend local boundaries, such as security, infrastructure development, and economic growth. However, the success of such collaborations often depends on the ability of neighboring local governments to overcome historical, political, and cultural differences, all of which are deeply influenced by their geopolitical identities (Ibrahim & Suleiman, 2023).
In Babura, ethnic affiliations, historical political alignments, and regional dynamics significantly influence collaborative efforts between the LGA and its neighbors. These geopolitical identities can either foster cooperation or sow division, affecting the outcomes of joint projects and initiatives. Despite the potential benefits of regional collaboration, challenges arise from the varying interests of local stakeholders, power struggles, and the unequal distribution of resources (Umar & Sani, 2024). This study aims to examine how geopolitical identity shapes regional collaboration in Babura and its implications for local development.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Regional collaboration in Babura LGA is often hindered by geopolitical identity, which influences local stakeholders' willingness to engage in cooperative projects. These challenges impact the effectiveness of joint initiatives aimed at regional development. This study seeks to investigate the role of geopolitical identity in either promoting or hindering collaboration among local governments in Babura.

1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypothesis
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it highlights the importance of geopolitical identity in regional collaboration efforts, especially in areas like Babura, where ethnic and political divisions can impede development. The findings will contribute to the understanding of how regional cooperation can be improved in Nigeria by addressing these identity-based challenges. Policymakers and local government leaders will benefit from insights into strategies that can enhance collaboration for regional development.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is focused on Babura LGA, Jigawa State, with an emphasis on the role of geopolitical identity in regional collaboration. The limitations include potential difficulty in obtaining candid responses from local stakeholders due to political sensitivities and the complex nature of inter-governmental relations.
